Bernie Lorenz Recovery, Inc

is named for one of the pioneering women in alcoholism recovery from central Iowa. Bernie passed away in 1976, with more than 20 years of sobriety.

Physically handicapped and stricken with chronic lung disease, Bernie was forced to sell her family home in order to meet her rising medical expenses. Through all of this, she maintained her dignity, her sense of happiness and her personal recovery program by opening her home to other alcoholic women. She fed them, loaned them money, she gave them a place to live. Bernie loved them all, regardless if they recovered. She carried this special message of hope to the alcoholic who still suffered.

In this spirit of recovery, perseverance and friendship, Bernie Lorenz Recovery House was established. The purpose of this program is to provide a home-like, supportive environment, combined with the best in therapeutic recovery services to chemically dependent women who desire a way of life free from their dependency.
